Welcome!
We're glad you've found our church! We hope you'll find us to be an encouraging, friendly group of people. While we don't make any claims to be perfect, we are regularly discovering truths that are changing us individually and enriching our lives as a church community.
In fact, it's so good that we think it's worth sharing!
The people in our congregation are like you-trying to find the time and energy to fit everything in each week and keep life in balance. To do that we're convinced that we need wisdom and love beyond our own limited capacities. That's why we set aside time every week to worship God and learn from his Book, the Bible. In our Bible study time and worship services both young and old learn principles for successful living that work not only on Sundays, but every other day of the week.
Another source of strength and joy is the support that we give each other. Lots of encouragement comes from being with people from a variety of backgrounds and interests who care about each other! How helpful it is to listen to the wisdom of older Christians and enjoy the exuberance of new Christians. And what a comfort to receive encouragement and support from church friends in time of crisis.
As we worship God, learn from the Bible, and pray for one another, we develop a common bond. Families coming to church together are strengthened in their commitment to God and as well as to each other. And we're finding new answers to individual and family needs.
All the benefits that we enjoy at our church are based on our commitment to Jesus Christ as our Savior, and the Word of God as our guidebook. When you commit your life to Christ, you enter a special relationship with God that enables you to face life's problems and bear them with his aid and the help of his people.
Do we find this approach to life fulfilling? Absolutely! We're finding out for ourselves the meaning of Christ's words: "I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly" (John 10:10). We believe, as the Bible teaches, that Jesus made eternal life and forgiveness available to us when he died on the cross for our sins: "Christ…suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God " (1 Peter 3:18). "To all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God" (John 1:12). By putting your trust in the risen Jesus Christ, you too can share the blessings of becoming a child of God and enjoy building relationships with his people right here in our church.
We sincerely hope you'll look further into what makes our church what it is. We welcome you to share the joy that we've found.
Recently someone asked me to describe Open Door Bible Church. Below are excerpts from my answer. I hope this will help you better understand the focus of our ministry.
We are a non-denominational, Bible believing church. We preach/teach the Word of God chapter by chapter.
We normally cover one chapter per Sunday. Each week there is a commentary of the chapter passed out.
We would feel like a Baptist church, because of our beliefs in Baptism by immersion. We would sound similar to a Calvary Chapel, because of our verse by verse expository preaching style.
We have a strong belief in the power of prayer and in community life. Each Sunday after church we eat lunch together as a family. We are very missions minded, with over 50% of our offering going towards missions. We believe it is our mission to win the lost in our area. Every July we put up a 100 foot tent and hold a series of old fashioned revival meetings. Nightly attendance is 100 to 150.
You can listen to our weekly sermons on our web site TODBC.org.
We have two Bible studies on Wednesdays one at 2 pm and one at 6:30 pm. Where we study the Bible chapter by chapter.
I understand that Open Door Bible Church is not for everyone. We study God's Word in depth, which requires reading and study on the part of all involved. We have a weekly Scripture reading program and read the Bible through, as a church, each year.
If you would like to ask me more questions, my cell phone is 508-380-0471.
I pray that God leads you to exactly the church he wants you to be active in.
